Sorry, I have tried everything but I could not reproduce the problem

Have you got your file open in excel by any chance?
Or perhaps you have not got enough user rights?

Hi Mike

I am using a mask to move any excel file in the folder that starts like this Mega-recall_Mars_*.xls. It seems to struggle with umlauts in the string too eg Ü. It’s only when I search using an excel mask though and works perfectly if I try and move a file using the exact name

hope you can help
thanks
Emile

cool thanks, I know this thing is a problem with some of the VBA code I have and I have to force chr(34) ascii values around the string, but this has only been the case for the dreaded apostrophe. Seems odd hyphens and foreign punctuation can cause it too.

Thank you very much
Emile

I am not able to reproduce the problem you reported
Perhaps you can create for us a simple test case

You are moving files from c:\temp\dir1 to c:\temp\dir2
Create a package to show us what you are trying to do, emails us your repository
Plus we need the actual files which you are not able to move
