We recently purchased a license for Visual Importer and we have a question about how to install it.
The system on which we wish to install it is part of a high availability cluster. This system provides a redundant environment where two processing units share a raid array. Only one of the two processors is in use at any given time. The second processor is configured to automatically come into operation if the first processor fails for some reason. We want our installation of Visual Importer to run on this system so that our production processing of data files can continue along with the other operations which this system supports if a fail-over to the second processor occurs. However, we want to make certain that we install it correctly for this configuration. If we simply install it while one processor is running we are concerned that there will be register settings or some other such consideration which will not be picked up from the raid array if/when the system fails over to the second processor. However, if we try to install it once from each processor we don't want the two installation procedures to interfere with each other or to wind up with two distinct installations.
Can you tell us anything about this? Will the saved data/program files on the raid array installed while running one processor be complete when the second processor is brought on-line? Is there a special installation procedure which must be used to install from one processor, then the other? Are there any other considerations of which you are aware that we need to know about? While I am responsible for the database and the loading of the data which will be done with VImp, I am not as familiar with the low-level internals of Windows systems which might be affected by installing VImp. We do have expert systems administrators who can discuss this at such a detailed level if that is needed.
Any help you can give us on this would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Kenneth
