Hello,

I'm trying to import some Visual Foxpro files, but I'm encountering an error that has me stymied. Specifically, when a character field contains a hyphen or a slash, SQL seems to be deciding that the character data is actually numeric data and is rejecting the records with a "numeric value out of range" error. At least, that's the only explanation I can come up with since none of the records that get through contain a hyphen or a slash, and all of the rejected records contain one or the other.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark.

Looks like you are trying to insert numeric data bigger that column allows.
Can I ask you to email us table creation script please.

Mike

Mike,

I originally tried to import the table using DTS, which created the SQL table but errored out on the actual import. (I've rarely been able to get DTS to import data successfully, which is why I've been using Visual Importer.) So I can send you a screen print of the columns, but not an actual creation script.

However, before I do that, let me check the definitions myself. I assumed that DTS would create the table properly, but maybe not. If I can't identify a discrepancy, I'll ask again for your help.

By the way, a couple of issues that have come up that I'll pass along, though I've been able to work around them:

1. In the target table section, the DB Default field doesn't allow any entries. I had to go into the template and enter the default values manually.

2. With fair regularity, when I try to clear the transformation log, I get an error message stating:

Cannot create file "C:\Program Files\Visual Importer\Vimp.log". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

Once I start getting this message, I keep getting it, even if I shut down, reboot, open Visual Importer and immediately try to clear the log again. My workaround is to close VImp and delete the log file manually.

Thanks again for your help,

Mark

One of the good things about Advanced ETL Processor that the trial has no limitations. There is no need to fill in any registration forms or to buy the software in advance.  That saved us a lot of time and we were able to load and  validate all our data when we needed it urgently.
