Advanced ETL Processor Professional definitely has very nice features which can be very usefull. I'll be looking forward to the final release!
I have some remarks based on my first impression of your product and reading the helpfile:
Textual remarks:
page 19: the arrows to teh status bar and objects tree are interchanged.
page 111: It's not clear to me what the meaning of "Is File Name" is. Based on the title I guess that it checks for a valid filename. But under Fail ftc is
mentioned, however that's a valid filename. Could it be that the meaning is to check whether this file exists, however than a directory should be specified.
So I don't know what's the meaning
page 197: In the sentence "We are ... add it" I think something is missing
Functional remarks:
- It's not clear to me how to create a new task from the initial screen. Only after making a choice from the objects tree I can create a new task.
- In the objects tree it's for instance not possible to delete the entries under Oracle, while the 2 underlying Orcale records can be deleted. However on the
top-level it's possible to delete The Demo Project under Projects. This seems inconsistent.
- I can't figure out how to adjust the number of records to show in the reader or writer. When I alter the shown value of 100 to another value (for instance
10) and press the refresh button all that happens is that the value changes again to 100.
- I can't figure out how the deduplicator works based on what is stated in the manual on page 63. Are the ticked fields the keys on which deduplication is
carried out? Should the input be sorted on this key fields before deduplication?
- How should I validate a numerical value (not being an integer but a real/float value) being greater or equal than a certain value or less or equal than a
value. With integers one can use "Is Number More Than" and "Is Number Less Than" and use as value - 1 or value + 1.
- Is it true that only rejected records are passed to the next step that's connected to the red cross output button (see last figure on page 56 of the
manual). And what happens when more validation conditions are present in the same validator with different failure processing (for instance one rejecting
records and another discarding records)?
- In the example "Import from Multiple Text Files" the source file Ord1.csv is missing.
Feature requests:
- All open tasks can be are addressed via the tabs at the bottom of the screen. It would be nice if by right clicking a tab the corresponding task could also
be closed.
- being able to use function in validations, for instance sub string functions.
- being able two combine conditions with the OR operator.
- joining two textiles.
- having a regular expressions builder .
- A floating objects panel on the right.
- validation rules in the objectspanel separated by tab pages
- being able to delete selected objects by pressing the delete key
- when more input files or output files are present, they are all shown as reader and witertabs on the preview window.
