Hello,

I am evaluating your tool and it looks very good.
But I do not seem to find a way how to verify the layout of a file
before doing an import.
Sometimes the layout of a file provided by our customer changes without
any warning. How can we check this with your tool? I deliberately
changed some columns in a file and apparently the tool doesn't take
that
into consideration and imports the wrong data in the wrong column.

You can create another transformation dedicated to checking file structure.

Assuming that your files is delimited and first line has field names.
Double click on the reader set header lines to Zero. Click restrictions set number of lines to read to 1.
That will make transformation read first line with field names.
Than add validator and check field names.

In the package add two transformations. One will,check the file structure if nothing is wrong second will load the data.

In theory it could be done with one transformation.
I can build for you an example if you wish

Yes I would like to see how it can be done in one transformation.
One more question about the first way of working (2 transformations). The transformation dedicated to checking the file structure, do you have to validate each field then?
And what about the writer part since I only want to check the structure and not write it to any database? Am I correct that in each transformation a writer section is obliged?
